Composition

• Ornidazole 500 mg

Description
OrNix-500 contains Ornidazole, a nitroimidazole-class antibiotic with antiprotozoal and antibacterial properties. It is widely used for treating infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. Ornidazole works by disrupting the DNA synthesis of the microorganisms, effectively stopping their growth and eliminating the infection.

Indications
OrNix-500 is effective in treating:

• Anaerobic Bacterial Infections

  • Infections in the gastrointestinal tract, liver, or abdominal cavity.

  • Post-surgical infections.

• Protozoal Infections

  • Amoebiasis (intestinal and extraintestinal).

  • Giardiasis.

  • Trichomoniasis.

  • Bacterial Vaginosis.

• Dental Infections

  • Periodontitis, gum abscesses.

Precautions

• Allergy: Not recommended for individuals allergic to Ornidazole or similar drugs.

• Pregnancy and Lactation: Use only under medical supervision.

  • Avoid in the first trimester of pregnancy unless absolutely necessary.

• CNS Disorders: Use with caution in patients with epilepsy or other neurological disorders.

• Alcohol: Avoid during and up to 48 hours after completing the treatment to prevent disulfiram-like reactions (e.g., nausea, vomiting).

Side Effects

• Common:

  • Nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, metallic taste.

• Rare but Serious:

  • Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling).

  • Neurological symptoms (numbness, tingling, seizures).

  • Prolonged use may increase the risk of Candida overgrowth or secondary infections.
